DESCRIPTION:The Cyprus institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) is organi
sing an introductory course on Research Data Management (RDM) best practic
es that will take place online on Friday 17th February\, 2023. The course
is supported by the EU-funded project [ELIXIR-Converge](https://elixir-eur
ope.org/about-us/how-funded/eu-projects/converge) that has as its main aim
to help standardize life science research data management (RDM) across Eu
rope. \nGeneral Information \nThe CING Bioinformatics Department (C-BIG)
is a highly inter-disciplinary team founded in 2016 to host the Bioinform
atics European Research Area Chair in Cyprus under the support of the EU H
2020 ERA Chair grant\, BIORISE (Grant Number 669026) and since then it has
been transformed to a permanent Department within the Cyprus Institute of
Neurology and Genetics (CING). The mission of the Group is to function as
a hub of excellence in the areas of applied bioinformatics to early diagn
osis\, effective prognosis and drug discovery contributing to the concepts
of Preventive\, Personalized and Precise Medicine. This is accomplished t
hrough state-of-the-art bioinformatics research\, advanced education in po
stgraduate level and continuous development of bioinformatics methods and
tools provided either as services or as publicly available applications.
\nC-BIG is a member of the steering committee for the establishment of the
CYPRUS-ELIXIR Node and a member of ELIXIR-Converge. With this action we a
re aiming to increase awareness and knowhow on issues surrounding RDM in C
yprus. \nELIXIR (https://elixir-europe.org/) is an intergovernmental orga
nisation/network that brings together life science resources from across E
urope. These resources include databases\, software tools\, training mater
ials\, cloud storage and supercomputers. The goal of ELIXIR is to coordina
te these resources so that they form a single infrastructure. This infrast
ructure makes it easier for scientists to find and share data\, exchange e
xpertise and agree on best practices. Cyprus is not yet a full member of E
LIXIR. It is an observer and is working towards full membership. For a ful
l list of nodes follow the [link](https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/who-w
e-are/nodes). \nThe course will be provided in collaboration with ELIXIR
Portugal and specifically BioData.pt and is an introductory course aiming
at disseminating Data Management best practices and teaching the basics of
making and using Data Management Plans (DMP) in the context of research a
ctivities. \nThe course will be provided as a full-day featuring two intr
oductory lectures on Research Data Management and Data Management Plans. F
ollowed by a hands-on DMP exercise where participants will form groups to
fill in a DMP for a mock research project.
