DESCRIPTION:# Overview\nBeing able to reproduce your research results is a
cornerstone of good scientific practice\, not only at the level of the dat
a generation\, but also during all steps of the statistical analysis.\n\nD
uring this two-day workshop\, we will explore how to use the R statistical
software and some of the associated packages in order to conduct a reprod
ucible data analysis and to help you reuse your R code in subsequent proje
cts. We will cover all steps of the data analysis\, starting from data cle
aning and data management\, going through the statistical analysis itself\
, and finishing with the communication of results. The content will includ
e many tips and tricks to improve your day-to-day analysis work\, making t
he process more efficient and robust.\n \nIn particular\, we will explore
"knitR" and "officeR"\, two R packages that allow the automated creation
 of documents (Word\, Powerpoint\, PDF\, HTML\, ...) from within R\, thus r
educing the manual steps in preparing reports or slides and increasing the
reproducibility of the resulting documents. We will also discuss the use
of custom-made R packages.\n\n\n# Audience\nThis course is addressed to li
fe scientists and bioinformaticians who already routinely use the R statis
tical program\, and would like to improve their analysis process by knowin
 g more about R and using relevant packages.\n\n\n# Learning outcomes\nAt t
he end of the course\, the participants are expected to be able to:\n* Use
R efficiently in order to perform a reproducible data analysis\n* Organis
e their data and analysis scripts in order to make their life easier and i
mprove the reproducibility of their work\n* Avoid common traps when using
R\n* Directly generate reports and documents from R\n\n# Prerequisites\n##
 ## Knowledge / competencies\nParticipants should already have a basic know
ledge of the R statistical software. Test your R skills with the [quiz her
 e\, before registering](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIyeuabd
 _ZOWXgI1MWHapmaOMu20L9ESkLDZiWnpmkpujyOg/viewform?usp=sf_link).\n\n\n####
Technical\nAttendees should have a Wi-Fi enabled laptop\, with the followi
 ng software installed:\n* R version &gt\; = 4.2.\n* RStudio\, not older th
an 2022.\n\n# Application\nThe registration fees for academics are **120 C
HF** and **600 CHF** for for-profit companies.\n\nWhile participants are r
egistered on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions may be made to
ensure diversity and equity\, which may increase the time before your reg
istration is confirmed.\n\nYou will be informed by email of your registrat
ion confirmation. Upon reception of the confirmation email\, participants
will be asked to confirm attendance by paying the fees within 5 days.\n\nA
pplications will close on **02/03/2023** or as soon as the places will be
filled up. Deadline for free-of-charge cancellation is set to **09/03/2023
**. Cancellation after this date will not be reimbursed. Please note that
participation in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](http:/
 /www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\n# Venue and Time\nUniver
 sity of Lausanne\, [Amphipôle building](https://planete.unil.ch/plan/)\,
(Metro M1 line\, Sorge station).\n\nThe course will start at 9:00 and end
around 17:00. \n\nMore information will be provided to the registered part
icipants in due time. \n\n# Additional information\nCoordination: Patrici
a Palagi\n\nWe will recommend 0.5 ECTS credits for this course (given a pa
ssed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to register to the
SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all future courses and worksho
ps\, as well as all important deadlines using the form [here](https://list
 s.sib.swiss/mailman/listinfo/courses).\n\nPlease note that participation i
n SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](http://www.sib.swiss/
training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nSIB abides by the [ELIXIR Code of Condu
 ct](https://elixir-europe.org/events/code-of-conduct). Participants of SIB
courses are also required to abide by the same code.\n\nFor more informat
 ion\, please contact [training@sib.swiss](mailto://training@sib.swiss).
